The perimeter of our property is hedged with azalea shrubs that both my
father and my stepfather planted. Most of the year, they provide us with a nice
green privacy fence, the presence of which we appreciate, but rarely consider
beautiful. But every spring, our appreciation is replaced with marvel as we
watch their branches come alive with color and activity. The branches become heavy laden with blooms in several beautiful shades
of pink that attract a host of bumble bees as well as humming birds. So great
will be the number drawn here to work the pollen that the sound is something similar to the hum of a high
voltage power line.
